Sent to Pet Experts December 21, 2005 4:40 p.m.

Hi, I have an 8 week old wire haired doxie and he's been sleeping almost all day.....he did eat breakfast this morning, but has had no interest in eating since then. He's had water and that's about it....stool is OK, and is urniating. He had his booster parvo shot on Monday, could this be making him sleepy and tentative to walk? We have wood floors and he doesn't look as sure footed as he does on carpet....sorry, like a little baby, I get worried easily....we have a 2 yr old wire and they played great on Tuesday night, but today , he's soooooo sleepy.....help

It is pretty likely it is from the vaccination although it is usually a little quicker than that. I would keep a watch on him and if he seems to get worse give your vet a call as they may have limited holiday hours. You can take his temperature rectally to see if he has a fever. Normal for a resting dog is 101-102.

Hi Joni....thanks. I was going to give the vet a call tomorrow if Fynn is the same....he's wobbly when he walks as well, though I don't know if it's due to the wood floors....he's breathing is fine and like I said his stool is solid. I don't have a thermometer to take his temp, can I "feel" him for that (like the old back of the hand to the forehead on humans?)

He had his shots 2 days ago? I hope he wasn't harboring something and it is just now showing. I still don't think you need to go to the emergency clinic unless he starts with diarrhea and more vomiting. Let his stomach rest tonight except for water and just small amounts but often so hopefullyhe will keep it down. If you have some Pedialyte that is good also.
