Hi,
My name is Kat Antal and I have a 3 month old baby Chihuahua with an underdeveloped windpipe. I just got her from a friend and for the past 1 1/2 she was diagnosed as having pneumonia and was put on antibiotics. When I received her on Friday, I thought that she should be getting better after two regiments of antibiotics so I took her to my vet who to an x-ray and showed me the windpipe going into the lungs was as thick as a parsley stem. My baby is only 12 oz. and is a good eater, drinks her water and loves to play. She just has such a difficult time breathing. The vet told me that she has a 50/50 chance of survival and if she doesn't get better in 3 weeks or so (that is outgrow this), I should have her put down. I don't want to give up, she really has spunk and wants to live. She is really loving, just can't breath well. I thought I would try and build an incubator out of a large Rubbermaid plastic bin, but have had a difficult time getting an oxygen tank. I can't believe that it is prescription only. My Gosh, you can go to an oxygen bar on the street in Vegas and get it, but I can't rent or buy a tank without a prescription. Can you even overdose on oxygen??!! I am so frustrated and don't want to give up on her, I love her.
Please help. I can use some good advice.
Thanks
Kat
