my chihauha got fixed on tuesday and was having problems

Sent to Pet Experts December 18, 2005 1:26 a.m.

My chihauha got fixed on Tuesday and was having problems with pain so yesterday I had the Dr. give me some extra pain meds. Yesterday she had her normal dose.4mls of metacam and a tablet in the afternoon and evening of 1mg butorphanol. It said I could give her one three times a day. It really helped with the pain yesterday and she went the bathroom, drank water and ate a little. Today I have given her the meds, all three pills and she hasn't eaten or drank today. She is just laying on my bed not moving much. Her stomache is making awful sounds and she doesn look good. She also doesn't want to walk. What should i do? I think she is sick to her stomach from all the meds? I don't plan on giving her anymore meds, but I don't know if I need to take her to the pet emergency? I gave her three droppers full of water to keep her hydrated. She wont even think about eating should I be worried?Optional Information: Age: 3; Female; Breed: chihauhaAlready Tried: dropper full of water

I also think the stitches are bothering her. She jumps all of a sudden like something is hurting her. She has scratched the skin pretty bad on her stomach trying to itch it yesterday, is that what is hurting her as well>

She may be fighting an infection. Usually the stitches do not hurt or itch much at all.
Metacam can cause digestive upset in some dogs which is why it needs to be given with food. Even then certain dogs can be bothered.
You can read about metacam here

If she seems worse you should consider going to the vet with her.
