Question

are huskies one of the breeds susceptible to IMHA?

Sent to Pet Experts December 16, 2005 10:23 p.m.

my husky is 9 yoa and was diagnosed with IMHA today. I have been trying to research all that I can on this disease. He of course has low platelets, low red blood cells and an elevated white blood cell count. Due to the elevation of the white cells the vet is unsure of a steroid treatment. I have him on doxycycline for now and am starting him on Predisone in the morning. We are scheduled to go to the diagnostic center on Monday morning to try to determine further the possible cause and the best treatment. This was a sudden onset of syncope spells, lethargy, pale gums and ears, and loss of appetite. I haven't found much info that the vet had not relayed to me. I did see that malamutes are one of the breeds which commonly get this disease. Since malamutes and huskies are so close in relation I was wondering if maybe he fell into this category also. I appreciate any info you may give. I also apologize for the misspelling of the medicines. Thank you!!
