When you say "butt surfs" do you mean she is scooting her butt on the floor? It may or may not have anything to do with the shaving. If it is the shaving then next time try to not shave her so close as it may be razor burn. I am betting that it is her anal sacs. They have a pouch on each side of the rectum that fills up and sometimes they can express them themselves by scooting around on the floor or in the grass. It stinks really really bad so if he is able to express any you will certainly know it. Most people prefer to have their vet express them for them. I will find a link for you with some more detailed info. http://www.animalclinic.com/analglnd.htm http://www.thedachshundnetwork.com/analsacs.htm If you found this answer helpful please remember to accept it.

It could be coincidental. Try a cool damp cloth and see if that gives her any relief from the itching. Have you tried Benedryl? My vet recommends giving it at the dose of 1 mg per pound of body weight every 8-12 hours. If it is the shaving causing an itch this should help.

I understand that- can you read my post above this? About the Benedryl for itching from the shaving? She would not be itching from the anal sacs- it would be from the razor burn.

The cortisone cream is fine. If she is still licking you can use a cone to make her stop. Also please remember to click the accept button if my answers were helpful.

Benedryl pill? That is fine- How much does she weigh and what is the strength. Do you need help figuring the dosage?

Well 1/2 of that will cover up to 12# so break it in half and then a little bit more. She can take between 1/4 and 1/2.

You are quite welcome- Did you have any more questions? I see you posted "9lbs 8mts". I am confused by that. I am guessing you are telling me she is 9 lbs and 8 months old?
