Question

my shitzu is about yeards old she has started losing

Sent to Pet Experts December 14, 2005 10:04 p.m.

My shitzu is about 8 yeards old. She has started losing hair and her skin is pink. Patches of her skin on her rearend is black. She scratches constantly sometimes until it bleeds. A spot on her back is very strange looking and is raise and black and about the size of a quarter. I have tried human skin medicines, changes flea shampoo and bought a special cortisone shampoo. I have 3 cats and I feed them dry food mixed with a beef flavored can food. The dog eats from their food alot. The dog has a terrible odor all of the time, nomatter how frequently she is bathed. I don't have the money to take her to a vet. I don't want to see her suffer anymore. How can I tell if this is something that can be treated and will improve, or if she has cancer or something terminal and would be best put to sleep? She lays around trying to scratch constantly and seems to never get any relief.
