Question

Pet allergy

Sent to Pet Experts June 01, 2004 10:48 a.m.

how long does it take for a dog to get over an allergic reaction to a insect bite of unknown origin after administering benadryl and predinose for 24 hours? If the reaction keeps occuring, is the dog in any harm?

My dog was bitten/stung my something yesterday morning. Immediatly after she was vomiting and had a swollen cheek. I gave her benedryl and the swelling subsided and then returned about 7-8 hours later. I then gave more benedryl and prednisone. she was fine until about 10 hours later when she vomited and was swollen again. i then gave more benedryl and prednisone.

My question is, is this a normal allergic reaction and does it usually take this long to subside? IS my dog in any inherent danger when the swelling returns?
