I have a 9 or 10 year old black lab who was recently treated for a pinched nerve in her neck- they gave her prednisone & a muscle relaxer. I was warned that she would drink more water than normal & thus have to potty more than normal. It was not a problem until we tapered the prednisone off and she started having an accident in the middle of the night (on nights she was given prednisone). Today she had an accident and was not given prednisone. She shows no symptoms other than these rare accidents (there is no warning- I was -petting her as she was laying on the bed when the last one happened). I do know she has several fatty growths and at one point in time was very overweight. I also realize that I need to have her see the vet to make any definite diagnosis. Do you have any suggestions as to what might be wrong and what i can do to help prevent these accidents in the future?

I would have a urinalysis done to rule out a urinary tract infection for starters. This is a likely possibility. If it is that then antibiotics should take care of it. If it is not that and she continues once she has been off of the pred for awhile then it may just be incontinence and there are medications that can help with that also. You need to rule out the UTI first though.
