I have a viszla which broke a toe on his left rear leg. The vet put a splint on then about a week later it began to smell so i took him back in. They found that he then had split his pad near the front all the way thru. This vet said there was nothing they could do except restrict movement. I did this for about 6 weeks and it was starting to scab a little. then last sunday he got out out his e-collars and was able to lick it enough to aggravate it and so I took him to a different emergency vet. they put suters in and said he needs at least 14 says of not bothering it for it to heel. I looked at the pad today and the stitches have come loose and the pad opened back up. Do you have any other questions. this dog has a lot of energy he is only one. I have been doing good to keep him slow in fact giving him sedatives. he vears e collars 24 hours a day. i dont have any other ideas of what to do. i am about to give up on him because the pad is not healing. I have spent almost 2000.00 on him and cant spend any thing else. do you have any suggestion or ideas. the dog is miserable because his movement is restricted.
