My 3 yr old Lhasa had her annual exam today (all is perfect) including a heartworm/lyme bloodtest (both negative) and Rabies, Lyme, Distemper/Parvo booster. Now, 9 hours later, she's rubbing and scratching her face and head and her skin and eyes are red and irritated...is this normal and what can I do to help her??

Optional Information:
Age: 2; Female; Breed: Lhasa Apso

It does sound like she is having an allergic reaction to the vaccine. Be sure and request a different brand of vaccine in the future.

You can use up to 2 MG of benadryl per lb of dog every 8-12 hours.

Keep a close eye on her breathing because a reaction this strong can close the airway.

Let me know if you still have questions.

She seems back to normal this morning..I bathed her in Histacalm last night..if nothing else, the water eased her suffering alittle. She was panting last night (I stayed awake watching her all night) but is OK now..Good to know about the Benadryl--I'll keep some on hand. Can I consider this passed, or could she suffer another "flare-up"?

I think that you can consider this to have passed. Just be sure and let your vet know about it before she is vaccinated next year so that he can use a different brand of vaccine.
