How do I know my pekingese is pregnant?

I noticed my dog went into Heat around the 15th of October of this year 2005. Or at least that is when I noticed blood. Now, my new female I thought would not be ready to get her pregnant because he was too young. Anyway, her vulva is still swollen, she no longer has small tiny black nipples, cause she is black and tan, they are swelling and turning pink. She has gained weight but not too much. She weighed 12 pounds, she may weigh 14 now. I dont know how to do the math on this. But I am scared, because someone told me peke's dont do well with Childbirth. I dont want anything to happen to her. I would get her fixed after, if she is due for a litter. Plus I dont want to end up keep all of them!! LOL...I just love Pekingese's. But everyone is already screaming at me..."They want one"...well what if there is only One? How many can they have? How long does it take for them to concieve?
Or what do they call it? Whelp? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Optional Information:
Age: 3; Female; Breed: Pekingese

Reply to Tammy Falkner's Post: I have no idea. My husband seen them together. But. Who knows what goes on behind the Garage. We have alot of room in our back yard. They like to way in the back alot. Her nipples are pink and swollen. She has been out of heat now for one month. She is still swollen, gaining weight, she vomited a few times. But I thought it was from a snack she was not use too. Otherwise she is still very healthy, playful. She in just ancey if certain people pick her up. She does not mind me picking her up at all. I marked the calender October 16th, when I started seeing the blood. I used her sanitary belt, indoors. My male was 11 months old in October. He is one year old Nov 5. What else could make her nipples swell like Utters? Any illness? Thank you.

No. But she could have a false pregnancy. If she was left alone with him, unattended and in heat, you have a pregnancy on your hands. Now you need to decide what you want to do about it.

You have the option to spay her up to 40 days gestation and abort the litter.

Let me know if you still have questions.

Reply to Tammy Falkner's Post: what is a false pregnancy? Ither there pregnant or not. I would never abort her babies. They already have several wonderful homes including mine as one. That was never an issue of fear of her being pregnant. I just wanted to know if there could be any other worry about her except pregnancy. "Any babies are born into this world are not to be aborted" Puppys or human as far as I am concerned. Unless her life was in danger. According to medical documentation.

What I was really relying on asking for help on is the "Doing the math" I noticed the blood on October 16, so would that bring her whelp date to Dec 16, or just before christmas. I had talked to peke breeders in the past, when I was considering breeding my pekes. They said it was 57 days. I hope she does not have to have a c section. How will I know if she has to have one?
I guess all these questions can be answered by Dr. Patterson but I am eager before our visit. Thank you.

I am so excited...I could burst. I lost my peke of 17 years last year. "Mugsy" and my husband bought me Willy for christmas. He is such a beautiful Dog, purebred show quality, Zsa Zsa is purebred too, but more of a Pet Quality peke. I guess I am like a grandma..cause I am worried about her. Thank you P.S Zsa Zsa brings us presents when we enter our home...if there isnt one of her toys in sight...she will go get one. It is the sweetest thing. If you dont pay attention to her with it. She will give a little bark growl with it in her mouth. "As if to say" Hello...here is your gift! Are you going to take it? She has been licking up a storm lately...we were wondering about that. She always gives thousands of kisses...but she has been also licking as if she has a hair on her tounge, sometimes its annoying. We nick named her little licks. I already checked her mouth to make sure she has no ulcers or anything in there.
