i HAVE A 5 YO SHITZU BITCH WHO i THOUGHT WAS PREGNANT. SHE HAS GAINED 4 POUNDS ETC...hAD AN XRAY AT 45 DAYS AND DOC THINKS ITS PYOMETRA. HE DID NOT SEE PUPS IN XRAY. IS IT STILL POSSIBLE THERE ARE PUPS IN THERE.?

Not if its an infection. The fetus would not attach to the uterine wall if there was infection.
You do have choices on treatment - you can spay or have the vet do prostaglandin therapy

The prostaglandin treatment preserves the uterus for another breeding.
You may want to check the stud used for signs of infection too.
