What can i do about my Golden retreiver's ear ...
Sent to Pet Experts December 01 07:39 PM

What can i do about my Golden retreiver's ear problems? She has had issues with dirt and possibly ear wax buil-up for several years now. I can't afford to take her to my vet for a $100.00 exam every time I can't seem to get them clean. I'm currently using a sterile saline flush several times a week. Is there anything else I can do myself?

Optional Information:
Age: 6; Female; Breed: golden retreiver

Already Tried:
normal saline flush and vets office flushing and expensive flush they sell me

Reply to ZooCVT's Post: No meds, but the last ear drop solution we got from the vet was Epi-Otic. It did not seem to work, so I have been using a normal saline flushing technique. I just read a few minutes ago that a 1:1 water amd Vinegar flush may be better with cleaning. If her ears were cultured, I do not recall what the results were. I slightly remember one vet thought that ear mites mite be the issue, but I don't think he was sure. I need to do something. She is constantly skaking and scratching her ears and rubbing the side of her head. Thanks for your help.

I would definately get a culture done. Though it is more money, you will find out whats growing in there and it will save money in the long run because you will be treating with the correct medication that will get the bug thats growing in his ear. The swimmers ear solution of vinegar and water is a good maintainence cleaner but until you clear up whats growing it will be an endless battle.
