Dogs go in heat for the first time around 6 months of age. It will last about 3 weeks.

It really varies with the dog. It's a lot like girls going through puberty. Some will start their menstrual cycles at 11 and some at 13. Dogs are very much the same. She should have her first heat BY 1 year of age but you usually see it around 6 months.
