how would you tell the difference between parvovirus and canine coronavirus. we have a female puppy who had been throwing up today and now this evening she has started passing blood in her stool but nothing form does not appear in any pain and not at all lively just mopening around.

They can produce similar signs but corona virus is much milder. Your vet can run a test for parvovirus in the clinic. Treatment would be pretty much the same - IV fluids, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, antiemetics, etc.

Reply to Dr Andrea's Post: how long can either one of those diseases last or will it become fatal because we have no vet available till monday? and are we giving her the wrong things to try and help her and is there anything else we do for herself here? i just thought your answer before was to vague

she has not have had vac. that we know of because she and her sister showed up here and her sister dosnt have symptoms at this time. the owners dont want her back but never can get ahold of them to see if she has had her shots she is 7mnths old shes been keeping liquids down for the past 4 hours but has no interest in food. should we continue giving her pepto? we will be continuing with th pedialyte and she has a slight fever.

IM = intramuscular. A good spot is in the thigh muscle - front or back meatiest part. Be careful not to go too deep into the nerve that runs back there. If you are not sure subcutaneous injection would probably do just as well.
