This might be from a bacterial or fungal infection or it could be from a tooth that is abcessed into the nasal passages due to periodontal disease. Your regular vet should be able to help you with this.

Sometimes this is from a tumor or polyp in the nasal passages. Sometimes its a sign of a bleeding disorder.
You can use a cold compress on the top part of his muzzle to see if you can stop the bleeding when it starts.
You really should see the vet with him it might just need medications or it could need surgery or just dental care to resolve this.
