I have an 8 month old miniture dachshund. A couple of days ago I noticed a spot on the sheets that looked just like the glandular matter they excrete when excited/having a BM, etc. you know what I mean. Anyway, after I noticed this spot I noticed that he started licking his rectum quite a bit, as he licked I could smell the scent of the anal sak stuff (not really sure what you would call it). I tried wiping his rectum but I didnt notice anything on the cloth. I also emptied one of the sacs (couldnt get anything out of the other) and all I got was a very small amount of pale yellow fluid. He is not dragging his rear on the ground and I really dont think he is impacted or anything. His bowel movements seem pretty normal. Why is he still licking, and why am I smelling this stuff?
A side note and kind of a second question not really related to that problem- He got into a small sprig of old dried mistletoe from last christmas. I dont think he ingested a whole lot if any. I called animal poison control and they said I should worry if he throws up more than once. He never threw up but he really seems to be shedding a lot right now. Am I paranoid or could these be related?   Thanks for the help
