My old orange tabby was fine about an hour ago. All of a sudden he looked disorented and his breathing became shallow. He keeps licking his chops like he is is thirsty. I put some food and water in front of him but he wouldn't eat it. He has hyperthyroidism and I have been giving him 5 mg/0.1 ML PLO of Mtheimazole in a salve that I rub on the inside of his ear. This change was very sudden. Any idea what his problem could be?

ACCEPTED Check Mark

This licking problem is often a sign of seizure activity. So, you should go ahead and give your vet a call tonight to see if they want to see him. It can also be a sign of a tooth or mouth issue like an abcess or root tooth infection.

But since you are seeing the disorientation, I would lean more strongly towards a seizure.

Go ahead and give your vet a call.

Let me know if you still have specific questions.

Thank you very much. It probably is a seizure. It is a Saturday night and if I take him to the vet ER(not my vet) they will charge me $250.00 before doing a thing. My vet is open on Saturday. If his condition doesn't worsen, is is safe to take him first thing tomorrow?
