I have a three year old male Akita. Approximately twelve days ago he presented witth a hackey/gaggy cough. This progressed and he began regurgitating bile, white foamy and sometimes clear fluid. I took him to my vet on 10/19 where he was given fluids & l]kept overnight. He was given a complete blood work up. He had no temp and all labs came back normal. I took him home and two days later he was worse. I was sent ot the emergency vet clinic. He was given IV fluids, Doxyxycline 200mg PO BID, Injection of Anzmet,Clavamox 625mg PO BID, Hycodan 9mg PO q6 prn. Thoracic radiographs, Cervical Radiographs no significant abnormalities. It has been almost a week and he is getting much worse. His breathing seems to be more labored because he is gagging & vomiting so much. The vets told me it is Kennel Cough but the vomiting is not consistent with this and he is worse after treating with antibiotics for almost one week already. I do not know what to do. Are there any illnesses specific to the Akita breed that present with these types of symtoms? He is becoming incresingly more uncomfortable. What kind of Vet Specialty should I seek out? Please help me. I am very worried about him. Thank you. I can be reached at: Treesamaree@AOL.com
