Question

tampons

Sent to Pet Experts September 30, 2005 7:20 a.m.

My 17 week old smooth collie puppy ate a couple of tampons and now is not acting herself. I read online to induce vomiting with some peroxide. Any advice?

Update:
I didn't receive an answer quickly, so we gave the dog the peroxide solution and she vomited quite a lot of bathroom garbage including tampons, q-tips, dental floss, kleenex, etc. She returned to her playful self and then vomited again, this time clear fluid.

If she just did it within in the last 1 hour, you can give her 2-3 tbsp of hydrogen peroxide to make her vomit. The fear with this is that she will choke on them on the way back up, though, so you might want to take her to the vet to have them induce.

Let me know if you still have questions about this.

Thanks for the reply. I updated the post. We gave her the peroxide before getting the reply because we didn't want to wait too long out of fear that the material might pass further down the digestive tract. She vomited about 6 tampons, q-tips, dental floss, and some kleenex. She started playing with our other dog after that, and then vomited clear fluid again later. It sounds like she is going to be OK. What do you think?

REPLIED Check Mark

Yeah. If all that came up, she should be ok. Keep an eye out for diarrhea and vomiting and see the vet quickly if you see either. This could indicate an obstruction.

Let me know if you have more questions about this.
