Question

skin vet hair old

Sent to Pet Experts September 17, 2005 9:35 a.m.

i have a litter of old english sheepdogs. They were getting sore on feet and losing hair. The vet treated them with antibotics and cream. This did not work. I have tried other things creams, albon, cleaning with products nothing seems to work. They are 5 weeks so I took them from their mother. The feet are bare with lumps that sometimes have drainage.Their is dry ichy skin on the part of the foot that still has hair. They were born on pasture land, could they have a fungus.o you have any ideas.

At this age, they should still be with mom. Good breeders leave the puppies with mom so that she can teach them what they need to know. Most stay with mom for 8 weeks. She will begin to wean them herself around 6 weeks of age.

This could be a contact allergy. I suggest that you wash the feet well with a peroxide or betadine wash and then apply some neosporin ointment to any red or abraded areas after you dry the feet completely.

If this does not help, another visit to the vet will be needed.

Let me know if you still have questions.
