Question

Beagle over ate!

Sent to Pet Experts September 09, 2005 9:55 p.m.

My beagle, a 13', 16lb, chewed a hole in her food bag and ate enough to
significantly extend her stomach. her mid section is hard to the touch.
She does not act as if she is in distress and is otherwise very healthy. she
is just over 14 months old.

Keep an eye on her and expect possible diarrhea from over eating.
Give her all the fluids she wants to drink and don't blame her if there are any accidents.
I would not feed her tomorrow just let her digest the huge meal.
If she gets lethargic seeming or ill seeming see a vet for help right away. If she tries to vomit and cannot or if she tries to pass a stool and cannot that would be a signal for a vet trip right away also.
Probably she will handle this OK with just some stomach upset but potentially she could twist a bowel or perhaps even her stomach from the over eating.
Hope this helps you!
