ear infection by ear mites

i have a cat who repeatedly has a problem with ear mites, i put olive oil in her ear, i feel that i don't follow up 2 wks later for another application, her ear {the outside is like a balloon, i swabbed her ear out, what is the balloning up like that of her ear, possible infection?
