Question

recovering from heat complications

Sent to Pet Experts August 12, 2005 10:33 a.m.

yesterday i took my 8 mth old golden retriever to the vet for possible heat complications after he came in from being outside for awhile. He pretty much collapsed after coming indoors. I have worked in the medical field so I immediately put him in the tub and sprayed him down with cool water, then put him in front of a fan with added ice packs to the neck and between his legs. His temperature at the vets read 101. He was due for his annual immunizations so the vet gave those to him and nothing else. I have been up around the clock giving this dog gatorade in a oral med syringe and petting an turning him as he just lays on the floor. H e sems a little more alert today and did take a couple of drinks from his water bowl, but has only been up on his feet twice since this happened yesterday around 1pm . Is this normal reaction after heat complications what is the recovery time and what should I expect as normal recovery signs. Thank you.
