Question

Inability to cool down

Sent to Pet Experts August 08, 2005 9:06 a.m.

i have a 4 yo Rottie/Lab mix. over the past few weeks he seems to take a long time to cool down after exercise -- he pants for a much longer time than my friend's Labs who are 8 and 2. the outdood temp. has been in the 90's, but the difference between the dog's ability to cool down given the same exercise and heat exposure concerns me. should it?

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Yes I would say it would be a good time for you to have your vet do a thorough check over of your pet. He might be having a thyroid problem or a heart issue or simply not be able to tolerate the heat as well due to head structure or body weight.
Your vet can evaluate him and run bloodwork to make sure all his organs are working right.
Hope this helps you!
