Question

eye irritation

Sent to Pet Experts July 22, 2005 11:33 p.m.

The vet is closed, and my dog has an irritated eye that is red and she rubs it with her paw. Is there anything i can do for her until the vet opens again on monday?
Can i put neosporin in the eye until then?

REPLIED Check Mark

if you have any saline solution I would rinse the eye with that.

Do not use neosporin in the eye. (Please refer to the package insert for cautions).

A cool towel will also reduce the inflammation.

Make sure there isn't anything IN the eye, if your dog will allow you to do this.

Be careful, a dog that is in pain, can act irratically, and could nip.

She's not in pain, i know she just being annoyed by it itching. i have been opening her eye lids to look to see if anything was inside and i could not see anything. Human saline solution for contacts? Will this hurt?
I have some "STERILE 0.9% SODIUM CHLORIDE" for irrigation in a medical kit in my home. would this work?

I'm sure your dog will be just fine. But please have her checked on Monday. You could also look for another vet open tomorrow, just to be safe.
