Question

Bichon stomach problem

Sent to Pet Experts July 20, 2005 1:30 p.m.

My bichon's stomach has been distended and hard since a problem with fleas and then worms. She doesn't seem in pain, but looks like she swallowed a balloon. My vet gave her a treatment of Advantix twice this month,a worm treatment, intravenous IV for throwing up, and a Baytril Injection. She also had an x-ray which showed she had liquid in her stomach, but no growth. Can you direct me on what to do now??

I would ask you vet about a procedure called
abdominiocentesis.

The fluid can be removed slowly via an IV tube (without anesthesia) and this will relieve the pressure on other organs.

Has your vet also done bloodwork on her. Fluid in the stomach is called ascites and is usually associated with liver disease.

Liquid in the stomach is normal. Do you mean fluid in the chest cavity?

There was no fluid in the chest cavity, but an abnormal amount of fluid in the stomach kind of like a flu
