We have a 17 year old Siamese cat (male) - Simba. In recent months, he has been meowing quite a lot. We often describe it as bellowing. We've done everything we can think of the find out what he wants. We've put a blanket on the couch at night for him under a lamp because he is cold natured and that helped for a while. He comes upstairs, meows and meows and meows. We pick him up and he may stay on the bed a little while, then goes down stairs and eventually he starts the meowing all over again. We haven't taken him to the vet in a long time so I don't know if anyone will see him since he is not up to date on his shots. Also, he can be in the same room with us - say the living room watching tv and be sleeping beside us on the couch. He will wake up, get down, walk in the next room and start his meowing or bellowing. It is odd - almost like he has lost sound or smell of us and wants to know where we are. Any advice or suggestions?

Your vet should absolutely see Simba even if he hasn't had his vaccinations in a while. There are many things that may be going on so a full bloodwork panel should be done. One problem old cats can develop is hyperthyroidism which can affect their behavoir. Also cognitive disorder, which is sort of like kitty Alzheimers can affect their behavior with wandering, vocalizing, etc. Cats can also lose some hearing which oftentimes makes them more vocal - They can't hear themselves so they crank up the volume. There are treatments for many of these problems but proper diagnosis is needed by your vet.
