REPLIED Check Mark

Hello and thanks for investigating this important health question!

I am so sorry that you are having this experience!

Reptile keepers usually institute a quarantine with new specimens...this should be at least a 3-month period to evaluate the new animals for their health.

Your dear pet may have been exposed to a viral or bacterial agent that was responsible for the demise of the babies. Turtles also carry intestinal parasites that are contagious by exposure to eggs that pass in their stool.

It is best that you try to have this turtle examined by a vet who is familiar with reptile medicine.

Here is a link that will help you find some local help, and a link to a site run by a turtle-lover who also keeps a vet index:

I do hope that you can quickly get the help you need.

Definitely do the following:

1) Thoroughly clean and disinfect his tank and all furniture (use a 50:50 mix of bleach and water...rinse, rinse, rinse). Scrub crevices carefully...PLEASE wash your hands and launder all clothing after handling him and his enclosure: turtles do carry Salmonella and Pasturella that can make you sick.

2) Maintain him at the upper-end of his temperature range to activate his immune system.

3) Continue presenting food items that are "clean" and easily digested.
