What color are the areas?

Are the lumps under the skin?

Could you describe these raised area's a little more in detail?

Precisely how old is the hamster?

The hamster is black but has light skin but there are two spots, one on each side that are black and have hair growing like the rest of his body, but they are slightly raised. They are right in front of his back legs on each side. I bought him a month ago but he was full size so i dont know the aprox age. I have been told they may be scent glands? is that possible?

Scent glands are a huge possibility. What you are describing sounds exactly like the scent glands, as they are in that exact area, with the same coloration.

I would suggest a tumor, however there are two lumps, same positiom, one on each side of the body. This definitely sounds more like scent glands than a tumor, and most likely nothing to be highly concerned about.

Hope this helps!

Are scent glands normally different color than the rest of the skin? That was the one thing that I was told was odd about it.

Scent glands usually appear as black or dark brown, however on some hamsters they can appear abnormally pink colored. Scent glands almost always stand out from the rest of the skin color, usually being pigmented a totally different shade.

Hope this helps!
