We have a approx. 6 week old female loppy eared bunny. I'm trying to figure out the best way to set her cage up. The pet store gave me pine shaving, but now know to get a paper based litter and litter box. Her cage is roomy and has a plastic bottom. What should I use to cover the bottom of the cage with? She seems to like to pull the carpet when she is out of her cage, so I'm afraid to line the bottom with carpet. I'm also concerned about dampness if she goes outside of her litterbox since its a new concept for her. I thought about grass matts?

Grass matts, the rabbit safe kind, are a great alternative to put on the bottom of her cage. It will help give her traction for her feet, and safe if she decides to chew and nibble on it.

In my rabbit's cage, I do not have anything on the bottom. I just have his litter pan with litter in it, and the rest of the cage floor is bare. He loves it this way. When I did have grass matts and bedding on the floor, he pushed it out the way so that he could lay on the cool bottom.

Definitely do not use pine shavings in her litter box, as I'm sure you already know now. Paper pellet based litters are definitely much better and much healthier for her.

Hope this helps!
