My buck rabbit (mid sized lop ear) has a pinkish white growth at the end of his penis. The growth is bulbous in shape and approximately 3-4 mm long. The growth appears to be inhibiting the penis from retracting. I have never taken a rabbit to the vet before, and wonder if this situation merits a visit. Please advise. Thank-you.

Yes, I would definitely go see your veterinarian for this. Even if it is a benign growth, it can cause damage to the penis by not retracting (the penis can get dehydrated or ulcerate).

The vet will look at it and can give you idease how to pursue further treatment. Most vets will give you an estimate of cost as well.

Good luck!

Reply to Amanda Battaglia's Post: The penis has been "out" for at least a couple of weeks...what does an ulceration look like? I am wondering if it has allready happened.

Ulceration is a word describing a deep erosion of the skin layer (a really bad "sore"). The top layer of skin (epidermis) is gone and the underneath layer is red (dermis) and exposed. A veterinarian can determine this, thus the need for an exam.

Exposed penises are at risk for ulcers, trauma as well as the animals will sometimes overgroom them, causing more damage.

I am a rabbit lover myself. Please seek vet care ASAP to help your bunny!
