Question

Stinky Gas

Sent to Pet Experts August 09, 2005 8:15 p.m.

My Boston Terrier puppy (5 months old) has horrible stinky gas! We have tried changing his food from Puppy Chow to Iams. Is there a condition that causes this or are we doomed to live with the stench?

Parasites are a common cause of gas problems. If you have not recently seen the vet for a fecal exam, you may want to do so.

This could also mean that she has ingested something that is not her usual menu. If this is the case, you will see it resolve with time.

Low quality foods (like the kinds that you can buy at the grocery store) will often produce much more gas than the higher quality brands so, if this is a common problem, you may want to consider switching brands of food. A diet of rabbit and potato instead of one that has corn and wheat may be beneficial.

Let me know if you still have questions.
