Dried Blood on Anus

Sent to Pet Experts April 04, 2005 3:49 p.m.

My one year old male cat has dried blood around his anus for 2 days in a row now. What does this mean, constipation? No blood in stools that can be seen. He is neutered and lives with me and his brother only indoors.

Not to sound crude...but many times the rectal area will have a burnt orange/red fecal fluid crust.  Especially if you are feeding something that is colored, like meowmix. You can use a wet wipe and clean the area and see how blood like it appears.

Fresh blood can come from straining or even passing the undigested hair from grooming. I would watch and try to determine if it truly is blood.

He is acting normal, eating running around and playing and sleeping normally, so I will keep an eye on him and let you know if a day or two how he is doing. Thank you very much for your response. I just love my little kitty guys.

Sincerely, Marilyn
