Question

spindle cell sarcoma of the lower jaw

Sent to Pet Experts March 31, 2005 2:23 p.m.

Treatment options for a spindle cell sarcoma of the lower jaw, and if jaw is removed, quality of life afterwards. My dog is a 8 year old Rottweiler, other health problems include some arthritis in the right shoulder, muscle atrophy in the head, and a history of bloat in 2003.

How big is the tumor? Is radiation not an option?

The tumor takes up about 1/4 of his lower jaw, and is growing. I was told radiation alone could slow the progression a bit, but not remove the tumor. Surgery to remove that part of his jaw with follow up radiation is being recommended
