what would be the benefits of exploratory surgery considering the fact

my black lab is 13 and has injested some kind of wires into his stomach which is causing him much discomfort and the doctors gave him some pills trying to help him pass them but now before he has even taken these pills for 2 days they want to do exploratory surgery which they say he might not live through since he has a missing heart beat and is anemic are there any other options?
