We have an 11 year old cockatiel, named Customer (name blocked for privacy), he is an only bird, our first. We have two chihuahuas and they all get along, with limited supervised interaction but no touching. He is older than the chi dogs, but he sees us spend more time with them. You can do more with a dog. I handle Jerry daily & talk to him apx. 1-2 hrs. a day, he sees me walking about. He is in a central location. I cover his cage, play music boxes, add treats, reassure him, beg him to stop yelling.
My question is, is it true that cockatiels get more grouchy as they age?
This seems to be the case. He has always been so sweet, says "I love you", about 10 times a day, but has started being more squaky, and vocal.
This sends both mine & my husband's blood pressure shooting up. How can I keep him happy and QUIET?
