Question

everytime i sit on the couch or arm chair

Sent to Pet Experts July 14, 2006 8:46 p.m.

everytime i sit on the couch or arm chair i get a bug bite. i think my furniture is infested with some insect i can't see. besides bed bugs, what might it be and how might i get rid of it? i don't have pets. 1 week ago i had my apartment treated for bed bugs, just in case. my bites are kind of like mosquito bites, small slightly raised with a small dot in the middle.

It sounds like there may be fleas in the chair. Probably the safest product to use on the chair is diamataceous earth. You can purchase this at most pool supply stores or home centers like Lowes or Home Depot. It's a powder and you can cover your chair in it for a day or 2. It will dehydrate the fleas on the chair and kill them. The only bad thing is, if the fleas were in the chair they are probably in your carpet now also, so you may want to use this on all carpeted or cloth surfaces in the room. An alternative is to set off a flea bomb when you leave the house the next time for work. You have to be gone at least 6 hours when doing a flea bomb. These things should take care of the creepy crawlers you are having to deal with! Please let me know if I can assist further!

You can put it on the hardwood, but really don't need to - also it will make the floor very slippery. Fleas want to be in the carpet and in fiber - not on wood, so I would just do the carpet and furniture. Good luck and let me know if I can help further!
