I recent was given a mix german sheppard, when he got here he had a loud bark, he's been with us for 2 months and his lost his bark. He seems to strain his throat when he tries barking. It seems like its painful to him. I would like to know if this is normal? I'm very suspicious of my neighbor might feed him something either to poison him or so he can loose his bark. What can I do to ease his throat pain? Also do dog loose their bark?

With your mention of the neighbor I am wondering if he not only had a loud bark but barked a lot or whenever he was outside. If this is the case chances are likely he is hoarse as a result of all the barking. Just like if we go to a concert and scream non stop. If so, his voice should return once he rests his throat. You may want to keep him inside more so that he can do so.

With a poisoning you would notice other symptoms. Lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness. If these do not exist you are probably okay.

good luck
