Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. A full periodontal cleaning is a very deep cleaning. Fist the doctor will take measurements of the pockets around each tooth. Often the doctor will then give you a shot so the area is numb. But not always. This is not as deep as a root curettage. Then he will take a scaler and currette and reach inside gently and clean the tartar, plaque and bacteria from each area around the tooth. Sometimes he will irrigate the area with an antibacterial rinse. $150.00 is a very fair price to charge. If you have a history of periodontal disease or gum bleeding, this is an excellent way to get it under control and keep your teeth. I usually suggest that patients do it 3 times a year or alternate with me, one visit with me, the next with the periodontist. I hoped this helped you. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
