My 5-year-old black and tan coonhound mix has a lump on his flank that looks like a mosquito bite. It is not red, unless he licks it or I touch it, or mess with it. He has been licking it occasionally but not constantly. It is a raised bump more than a lump and the hair is still over it. He has had the lump for at least a year, but only recently did I notice him licking it. It is not bleeding, but seems to have some liquid occasionally coming out of it if squeezed by me. He does not have any other lumps and has a healthy appetite, wet nose, wagging tail and not unusually lethargic (the breed likes to lay around the house anyway). He does not seem to be in any pain or have trouble eliminating. He has not been vomiting or sneezing. His coat appears healthy and he is not limping. The bump is kind of hard, but it is round and not irregular in shape. It appears to be separate from the underlying skin, but does not move around like a fatty tumor would.
I am thinking about taking him to the vet, but am concerned about finances at present. I will still take him, but thought you might have some ideas.
One important note: The bump has not grown since I first saw it when he was younger.
