Question

What causes felines ears to turn red and be warm to the touch?

Sent to Pet Experts February 03, 2006 6:10 a.m.

I have a male kitten approximately 8 months old whose fur has fallen out in the last 2 inches of his tail. There appears to be sores and the skin is red, he chews and licks that area alot.

Additionally, his ears are red in color outside and in, and extremely warm to the touch. We have been treating him with Hartz brand OTC Ear Mite medicine, however this is his second bout with mites and the first time he had no reaction to the same medicine.

His bowel movements have not solidified despite constant water supply, and he doesn't always make it to the litter box before he goes (and he is box trained).
