Question

i have a month old great danegerman shepard mix and we

Sent to Pet Experts December 27, 2005 10:35 a.m.

I have a 10 month old great dane/german shepard mix and we just recently moved into a brand new house. The back yard is not landscaped yet so we have to take him out into the front and for walks so he can go to the bathroom. He is used to having a back yard and will not poop on a leash. He will hold it for days and then have an accident in the house. Sometimes I will take him out for walks four times in a night and he will not go, omly to come home an go all over our bedroom. I dont know what I can do to let him know it is OK to go in the front yard or elsewhere on the walks. Can you help?

Optional Information:
Age: <1; Male; Breed: Great dane/German shepard

Already Tried:
Walking him on a leash and off. Placing one of his stools from the previous back yard on to our new yard. Lots of praise and dog treats the few times that he does go outside.

Sorry, but I have tried those things already. The community i moved into has stipulations about not being allowed to have dog runs. There are several common areas around the neighborhood that contain alot of bark (his favorite thing to go on) and I have allowed him to roam freely. he is very easliy distracted and it seems as though going to the bathroom is last on his priority list.
