Question

paper training or not?

Sent to Pet Experts June 30, 2005 1:07 p.m.

I have a 3 month old Shih Tzu. I have been
having
him for about a month and a half. During a
typical
day I am at work for 7-8.5 hours. During that
time he
is confined to my kitchen with his kennel,
water, food,
and toys. I have also been leaving 1-2 those
popular
"training pads" on the floor opposite his food.
He
"goes" on those pads 98% of the time when I
am
gone. At night, he typically sleeps all night,
however
sometimes he may "go" once early in the
morning
before I wake up. My question is...during the
day
should I be leaving him in his crate all of those
hours, and if so, what do I do about food and
water
since I have no one to go to the house to tend
to him.
Also I have heard that paper training may
confuse the
puppy and teach him it is okay to go in the
house.
He still has accidents sometimes in the
house, but
the pads are working. Should I kick out the
pads or
not? I was thinking that "if it ain't broke, don't
fix it"
when it came to that. What do you think would
be best in my situation? Thanks for your help.
