I HAVE A 12 YR OLD LAB THAT IS DIABETIC AND HAS THE START OF KIDNEY FAILURE THAT WAS SIAGNOSES AT MICHIGAN STATE VET HOSPITAL. LAST FEW DAYS NOT EATING AND TONIGHT STARTED VOMITING AND DIAREHA, GAVE HER DIAGEL 2 AND HALF HOURS AGO NOW SHE WANTS MORE WATER THAT I TOOK AWAY BECAUSE SHE WAS THROWING IT UP. I MADE SOME MEAT BALLS TO SEE IF SHE WOULD EAT WITH ONLY A BIT OF SEA SALT BUT I THINK MAYBE THE GREASE EVEN AFTER PATTING MAY HAVE TRIGGERED IT. SHOULD I GIVE HER THE WATER BACK OR WAIT. THANK YOU, WHITNEYS MOM

She does need the water being diabetic she is most likely very thirsty at this point and can become quickly dehydrated. A better way to do this to prevent or at least decrease vomiting is to offer her ice chips. Chips are better than giving cubes because she can crack her teeth on cubes. This way the water takes a bit longer to hit the stomach and is less likely to rebound.

Better food options are boiled chicken, scrambled egg, cottage cheese, pasta, white rice, and even some corn flakes.

Remember if she is receiving insulin then she should not get her shots as long as she is not eating as this could lead her into hypoglycemia.

Please let me know if further assistance is needed.

Theresa
