Question

What's wrong with my cocker?

Sent to Pet Experts May 02, 2005 9:08 a.m.

My 10 yr old english cocker moves very slowly now and sometimes vomits and deficates on the floor in the middle of the night. I've also noticed a difference in his breathing. What could be going on?

As your pet is now a senior he could be having problems with more than one thing. The slowness in moving could be arthritis or not feeling well due to heart disease or some other major organ having an issue.
The breathing changes also could be related to having heart problems. There are great inexpensive meds to help with many heart issues.
The vomiting and defecating might be related to an intestinal bug or to his system having a harder time digesting the food you are feeding.
From your description it really sounds like the dog isn't feeling very well. I suggest a vet visit and geriatric check up to see what is wrong.
I know my senior dogs have benefited from such things as a heart medication and arthritis pain meds and glucosamine etc. You can often get years more of a happy comfortable pet for just a few dollars a month in meds.
Hope this helps!
