Abcess on neck of rat

What is the usual treatment for an abcess, which was once a cyst or tumor, on the chin of a younger female pet rat? It is clearly infected, and shows no sign of healing? can I use anything I have in the house or over the counter? The vet here wants $52 just to see her!
