I don;t know what is wrong with my rat, he is inactive and

My rat is sick but i don't know what to do about him. his symptoms include: red discharge from the nose, inactivity,refuses to eat or drink,droppings have red color in it. I took him to a pet hospital and they said it seemed he was having trouble breathing and he was in critical condition. What can i do in the meanwhile to make him more comfortable since we are taking him back tommorrow?
