Question

shaky back legs

Sent to Pet Experts September 07, 2006 12:25 p.m.

my dobies back legs shake when she squats to urinate, when she's nervous and after running, she will be seven in november. she doesn't seem to have any peoblems with her neck at least that i can recognize. could this be wooblers disease. she is on sience diet id for food and i would like to khow if there is a better food and or suppliment for her health. my vet has her on this food to help keep her coat good as she is a blue dobieand i'm sure because he makes a good profit on this food. my concern is my dogs health above all. i've read a great deal on foods and suppliments recently and a lot of the vitamins and such are not in the food she is on. please advise on the proper foods and suppliments. we just recently lost her older sister to cardio myopathy and i couldn't stand losing her. my husband couldn't wait and got a puppy which of course for me at least cannot replace the one we lost, but if you could also help advise on its nutricenal needs i would be very greatfull. thank you

Hello,

Thank you for sending your question to Just Answer?

I am sorry your dobies problems. With the symptoms you are describing and the fact that she is seven (which is considered old for large dogs) it does sound as though she may have neurological problems such as "wobbles."

She could also be dealing with joint pain while squatting and this would cause her to shiver. One, because of the pain and Two, because she is sore in her joints.

I would defintely suggest getting her on a supplement for arthritis and joint problems. There are many of these supplements available on the market , both online and at any of your pet stores. I does, however take some time for these supplements to help, but hopefully this will make her more comfortable in the future.

I hope this helps. If you need further information, please feel free to contact me.

thank you for your information i'm sorry i forgot to mention she is onchondra flex only because my vet put the older dog on it and suggedted she use it too at that time she didn't have this problem.
this is a glucosamine for joint problems. this is one reason i am so concerned, because if it is working it obviuosly isn't enough.also can you give any help on the best food on the market and or suppliments with all the proper vitamin and such.

Hello,

Thanks for the added information. There are many products on the market today that contain glucosamine and other ingredients. A lot of them do not contain enough levels of the supplement you want to relieve joint pain.

It sounds as though the one your are using now is not working, so I would suggest changing brands. You can usually tell the better ones by the price. Of course, the ones that are best, are also the most expensive.
