we hvae an 8 week old chinchilla baby it is very lethargic, obviously in distress we cn't find a vet to see it right now what do we do?we've given her some water and tried given her some of her food mushed up ansd softened with water. She ate a little. she has been urinating alot. The emergency vet on call does not treat exotic pets and we cn't get her seen until morning. What else should we be doing to get her thru the night?

Greetings;

And I'm sooo sorry to hear that your baby Chinchilla is ill. Be careful not to give it too much water at this time. As long as your pet stays hydrated...that is enough. Too much water can actually poison your pet.

Also, do not let your Chinchilla get too warm, but keep a close eye until you can make it to the vet in the morning. These pets do not adapt and thrive in temperatures above 80 degrees...so it's probably more important to keep your sick baby cool, than to warm it.
